Super Plus Plan: This comprehensive policy option provides worldwide cover and it is an essential travel policy for the USA, Canada or Japan.

Super Plan: The policy is the minimum policy option available for travel to the UK, Europe, South America, Russia, India, Africa, or the Middle East. It offers unlimited medical cover and cancelled or rescheduled travel, together with other benefits.

Standard Plan: The minimum cover option for travel to Asia, offering good cover benefits.

Economy Plan: This option is available for travel to New Zealand and the Sout Pacific Islands.

Australia Plan: This option cover travel within Australia only.

Pre-Existing Medical Conditions Covered by HBF

HBF automatically covers some pre-existing medical conditions provided they are under control, you don’t have other medical conditions, and you are not waiting for treatment, results from a medical test, or investigation into your condition. Other pre-existing medical conditions will need to be discussed with HBF and could require an extra premium.

Conditions that are covered include:

- Cataracts

- Diabetes non-insulin dependent

- Ear grommets

- Eczema

- Epilepsy

- Gastric reflux

- Glaucoma

- Gout

- Hay fever / Rhinitis

- Hearing loss

- Hiatus hernia

- Hip or joint replacement

- Hormone replacement therapy

- High cholesterol

- High blood pressure

- Impaired glucose tolerance

- Insomnia

- Macular degeneration

- Osteopenia

- Peptic ulcer

- Pregnancy up to 24-weeks

- Solar keratoses

- Underactive thyroid

Senior travellers with HBF

If you are a senior traveller 70-years or older, you are not automatically covered for medical and medical-related losses while you travel. You will need to contact HBF for a medical assessment and be pre-approved for medical travel insurance cover.

General Exclusions for all HBF Policies

  • Travelling against medical or dental advice.

  • Any incident that occurs outside of the insured period.

  • Any pre-existing medical conditions not automatically covered by the policy.

  • Failing to take reasonable care to keep you and your belongings safe.

  • Any acts of violence or intentional damage by you to other people or property.

  • Any sporting or high-risk activities that are not covered by the policy.

  • Changing your plans or deciding to cancel your travels voluntarily.

  • Not following official government warnings or mass media warning for threats of terrorism, natural disasters, extreme weather conditions, or health concerns.

  • Any consequential loss of enjoyment or financial loss.

  • Suicide or attempted suicide or other bodily harm.

  • Sexually transmitted diseases.

  • Any illegal or unlawful act by you or those travelling with you.

  • Failure to adhere to local immigration laws and government regulations.

  • Insolvency of a travel agent, tour operator, airline, accommodation provider, or other service providers, resulting in them not providing the relevant service.

How To Make a Claim With HBF

  • Contact HBF by telephone on 1300 559 867 to make a claim - this should be done within 30-days after you return home.

  • You will need to submit original receipts, police, dental and medical reports, declarations, valuations, and other evidence of ownership.

  • For medical or dental claims, HBF will require written confirmation of your illness or injury from a registered doctor or dentist, to process your claim.

  • For the loss of luggage and personal effects, you will need to submit an original police report or carrier report, together with proof of ownership and valuations.

  • For cancellation or rescheduling expenses, you will need to submit original receipts, tickets, or a letter from the travel agent showing a cancellation or changing of your booking.
