Travel Insurance Plan Available Through InsureandGo
InsureandGo offer five different types of Plans catering to specific types of travel:
-
One-Trip – cover for a single trip to an international destination of your choosing, and for a maximum duration that you specify when buying the policy. Does not include cover for travel on commercial cruise ships, or for travel within Australia. Available for Individuals, Couples, and Families, with three different levels of cover: Bare Essentials, Silver, and Gold. Bare Essentials is only available for travellers younger than 80 years when applying for cover, with the age limit for Silver and Gold rising to travellers younger than 101 years of age.
-
Multi-Trip – cover for multiple international trips in a single 12-month period, where the traveller is able to select the geographical location, along with the maximum duration of each trip (limited to 30, 45, or 60 days per trip). Like the One-Trip Plan, it is available for Individuals, Couples, and Families, with Bare Essentials, Silver, or Gold levels of cover. For Bare Essentials, travellers must be younger than 80 years when applying for cover, and younger than 101 years for Silver or Gold. However, for travellers older than 79 years the maximum duration of any single trip is limited to 30 days.
-
Domestic – cover for a single trip within Australia only, with the traveller able to select the maximum duration of the trip. Cover is available for Individuals, Couples, and Families, with levels of cover defined as Bare Essentials, Silver, or Gold. Depending on the level of cover selected, the Domestic Plan is available for travellers up to 100 years of age or younger when taking out travel cover.
-
Cruise – cover for a single cruise, with the traveller able to select the maximum duration for the cover, along with the geographical location, which can either be domestic or international. Available as Bare Essentials, Silver, or Gold levels of cover for Individuals, Couples, or Families. Travellers selecting the Bare Essentials level of cover must be younger than 80 years when applying, while travellers selecting Silver or Gold levels of cover must be younger than 101 years when applying for cover.
-
Backpacker – cover for a single trip, with the traveller able to select the maximum duration of cover, and the geographical destination they will be travelling to, but does not include cover for any domestic trips. Available for Individuals, Couples, and Families, the Backpacker Plan only offers Silver or Gold levels of cover, and for travellers who are younger than 65 years of age when applying.
Individual and Family policies automatically include cover for dependent children accompanying the insured, but the Couple policy only covers two adults travelling together. It is important to note that a surcharge applies to the premium of any insured persons over 50 years of age. Other exclusions and limitations apply to all policies, and these are covered in more detail in the relevant Product Disclosure Statements (PDS).

1 Sub-limits apply and are shown in the relevant PDS for each Plan.
The benefit limits shown above apply to Gold level of cover under each Plan. Sub-limits, exclusions, and specific conditions may apply, and these will be covered in detail in the relevant PDS.
Optional Upgrades Offered by InsureandGo Travel Insurance
All plans offered by InsureandGo travel insurance include optional upgrades that can be added to benefits of the standard cover offered. These include cover for winter sports, business cover, golf cover, and benefits for natural disasters, with Backpacker Travel Insurance also offering additional cover for some sports and hazardous activities. Not all upgrades are available on all policies and selecting an upgrade will require a higher premium being paid, and travellers should check their Certificate of Insurance to ensure that any upgrades they have paid for are listed. You can also opt to increase the benefit sub-limit for some personal items and belongings by both specifying which items you want a higher benefit limit for, and by paying a slightly higher premium.
Pre-Existing Medical Conditions and InsureandGo Travel Insurance
InsureandGo’s Domestic Travel Insurance does not include any medical cover, and while all the other plans do include cover for medical expenses and treatments, it does not extend to covering claims resulting from a pre-existing medical condition that you are or should be aware of, and are receiving – or have recently received – treatment for. Some pre-existing medical conditions might be covered, but this is at the discretion of InsureandGo, and only if you have disclosed the condition to InsureandGo and they have agreed to cover it. Pregnancy and childbirth are not seen as an injury or illness but cover for pregnancy and childbirth only extends to unexpected events, with certain conditions as laid out in the PDS being met.
Claims and Excess for InsureandGo Travel Cover
Claims should always be submitted as soon after any event as possible, and no later than 30 days after your trip has ended. Claims can be submitted online any time of the day via https://www.insureandgo.com.au/travel-insurance/important-claims-information.jsp.
Alternatively, you can initiate the claims process by sending an email query to info@insureandgo.com.au, or telephonically via:
-
1300 401 177 (for non-emergency claims), or
-
+612 9333 3999 (for emergency assistance, 24 hours a day)
You may be asked to provide original receipts, invoices, or other documents relating to your claim, along with your policy number, and proof of ownership. Some claims do not have an excess that needs to be paid, while others have an excess of $100-$150, as indicated in the relevant PDS. When buying your travel insurance, you have the option to pay a higher premium to eliminate any excess, or opting for a lower premium, but having to pay a higher excess on certain claims.
