Travel Insurance Plans Offered by Worldcare
- Comprehensive Plan – This plan is available exclusively to permanent and temporary residents of Australia purchasing the policy before departing on their trip, and for trips starting and ending in Australia. It offers the widest range of benefits and has no age limit attached.
- Essentials Plan - While the benefits of this plan are not as extensive as those of the Comprehensive Plan, it still offers cover for the most common claims. Cover is limited to permanent residents of Australia purchasing the policy before starting their journey, where the trip starts and ends in Australia. However, this cover is only available to travellers aged 74 years and under at the time the Certificate of Insurance is issued.
- Basic Plan - A bare bones plan only offering overseas emergency assistance, overseas emergency medical, hospital, and dental cover, and personal liability. This plan is also only available for travellers aged 74 years and below at the time the Certificate of Insurance is issued.
- Residents Returning Plan - This plan is useful for permanent residents of Australia travelling on short notice where there isn't time to buy travel insurance before departing. It offers identical benefits to the Comprehensive Plan but can only be bought for one-way journeys starting overseas and ending in Australia. There is no age limit for this plan, but there is a 48-hour waiting period that applies from the date of issue, with no cover for any claims arising for events happening during this waiting period.
- Domestic Plan – The Domestic Plan's benefits are structured for local travel within Australia, and as such don't include any medical cover, or any benefits typically needed for international travel. There is no age limit for this policy.
- Multi-Trip Plan – Designed for frequent travellers, this plan offers cover for an unlimited number of local and international trips in a 12-month period. However, it is only available to travellers under the age of 74 years, and accompanying dependants are not automatically covered under this plan.
Children or grandchildren accompanying you on the journey who are not in full time employment and are under the age of 25 are considered dependants and receive automatic cover on single and family policies, except for the multi-trip plan. Dependants are not covered under any duo policies.

1 There is no cover under these benefits while travelling in Australia.
The benefit limits shown above apply to Family Cover for the Comprehensive, Essentials, Basic, Residents Returning, and Domestic Plans, and the Policy Limit for the Multi-Trip Plan. Sub-limits, exclusions, and specific conditions may apply, and these will be covered in the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS).
Worldcare Additional Cover Options
Worldcare Travel Insurance automatically covers a large number of recreational activities, including river cruises, hiking, and bungee jumping, it does not cover sea cruises, and snow sports. Additional cover for these activities can be purchased as an add-on to the Comprehensive, Domestic, and Multi-Trip Plans and include a Snow Pack, Golf Pack, and Cruise Pack. These add-ons offer specific cover for a range of claims that may arise from these activities and are outlined in detail in the PDS.
Worldcare Travel Insurance and Pre-existing Medical Conditions
As with any travel insurance policy, the policies available through Worldcare automatically cover certain pre-existing medical conditions, as outlined in the PDS. You do not have to apply for cover for these as long as certain conditions are met, including that the medical condition has not required you to be hospitalised – including day surgery and emergency department visits – in the 24 months prior to taking out cover. If you don’t meet these conditions, or have any pre-existing medical conditions not listed in the PDS, you should disclose this when applying for cover. You might be asked to complete a medical assessment to help Worldcare decide whether they will cover these conditions for an additional premium. You can still take out travel insurance even if Worldcare is not willing to cover your pre-existing medical condition, but you will not be able to claim for any events directly or indirectly related to your medical condition.
Worldcare Travel Insurance and Travel Warnings
Your cover under any plan could be cancelled, or the benefits severely limited, if you travel to any destination with active travel alerts or warnings in place, especially if these warnings advise against travel, or to reconsider travel. These alerts are normally issued for destinations currently or recently affected by extreme weather, natural disasters, and civil unrest or terrorist activities. You can view a list of all travel alerts by visiting allianzpartners.com.au/travel-insurance/travel-alerts/ and speaking to Worldcare to find out how you cover may be affected.
